Drear Dr. Wilson,

Where can I purchase I-methylfolate supplement? What dosage do you recommend? I live in Kansas so have access to Whole Foods and Natural Grocers. I have gluten and dairy intolerance and follow a Paleo type diet. I have fibromyalgia history and insulin resistance. Even though I am eating protein and vegetables and virtually no carbs I do not lose weight which is mostly fat stored at my abdomin. I am 5′ tall and 184 lbs. and I walk 3 miles per day? What am I doing wrong? In 2010 I lost 40 lbs while taking HCG and very low calorie diet but then had a hysterectomy due to huge fibroids( which I think the HCG caused to grow). I gained back 30 lbs after surgery and can’t seem to lose anymore now.

I recommend taking l-methyfolate if your homocysteine level is above 8. This is a simple test that can be ordered by your physician. The supplement can be ordered from lef.org and soon we will have it available on our web site.

I don’t necessarily think you are doing anything wrong. I don’t recommend taking HCG unless you have a documented low level of growth hormone. You might consider taking DHEA 25-50 mg daily. I also recommend ignoring your weight. Weight loss alone is meaningless especially if you are under-eating. Consider buying a scale that also measures your body composition using bioelectrical impedance. These scales are now widely available. You might also consider adding strength training to your exercise program. Strength training will naturally increase your growth hormone levels and increase your lean body mass.

Remember you don’t have to be thin to be healthy. Keeping eating a reasonable amount of healthy food and if your body composition is slowly improving, you don’t need to worry about your weight. If you had your ovaries removed you might consider taking hormone replacement therapy.

I recommend using bio-identical hormones rather than the artificial hormones prescribed by many physicians. In the near future we will have a supplement called “CARB-22” available on our web site.
