Dear Dr. Wilson,

No question, just a HUGE Thank you!!! Today May 27, 2012 I am OFF sugar permanently. : ) I would drink 1-2 cups of coffee every morning, but I would add 4 tablespoons of organic unprocessed sugar (think that the organic sugar would be better for me… not even close.) So I just wanted to thank you. I found your two posts on Dr. Mercola’s website. So glad I did. The reason i use to put so much sugar in my coffee is that I couldn’t stand the bitterness of it but have found a way to enjoy my coffee again and take out the bitterness. Actually, yes I do have a question: What is your take on Agave as a substitute sweetener? Thanks again. Randy

Dr Wilson’s Response:

Randy– I give you a lot of credit for learning new information and then acting on it. I think over time you will experience the health benefits of doing so. Agave is promoted as a “low glycemic” sweetener but it’s actually very high in fructose. Agave products have a minimum of 55% fructose–the same amount as in high fructose corn syrup and many agave products have much higher fructose levels so I don’t recommend using any agave products. After you are off of sugar for a period of time most people find that they don’t really need to use any type of sweetener, whether it is natural, processed or artificial. Keep up the good work!
