I live North of Boston, so Dunkin Donuts has been a major part of my life for many years. Every workday you will find me queued up at my local Dunkin Donuts. I always order the same thing—large, hot, black coffee. Even though they have seen me order this a billion times, they always ask “Will there be anything else?”. In their wildest dreams they hope that I will finally give in and buy a donut, a bagel, a sugar infused drink or similarly processed junk. Wherever I go, I tend to people watch when I have a few idle minutes. At Dunkin Donuts I look at the people in the line ahead of me and try to guess what they will order. Trust me, I almost never hear “large, hot, black coffee.” That’s because just about everything except plain coffee that you can order at Dunkin Donuts is loaded with added sugar or crappy high glycemic carbohydrates. Many of the folks in line ahead of me are clearly addicted to sugar and starch laden food and beverages.
Processed Food Can Fry Your Brain
Unless you have been living in a cave, you already know that this type of processed food is bad for your health and specifically it is very bad for your brain. Let me say it another way: highly processed food is neurotoxic and over time it will fry your brain. We now believe if you consume this stuff long enough, it can trigger a form of food-induced brain dysfunction called Carbohydrate Associated Reversible Brain syndrome or CARB syndrome. People with CARB syndrome end up with common metabolic problems like obesity, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes along with a long list of brain dysfunction symptoms that will qualify them for many common brain disorders. Trust me, it’s not where you want to go.
The cardinal symptom of CARB syndrome is strong cravings for sweet and starchy food and beverages, pushing people to consume more of the toxic junk that is frying their brain. On some level, the folks who sell this stuff understand this connection between sugar, high glycemic starch, and cravings. They know that when they add more sugar and starch to their products, they sell a lot more products. This highly processed/craving cycle is driving the massive change in our diet over the past 50-60 years as well as the rapid decline in the health of so-called advanced societies.
These Clowns Make MS 13 Look Like Choir Boys
Now let’s get back to Dunkin Donuts. I believe they are one of the largest purveyors of this type of toxic food and beverages on the East Coast and their reach is rapidly spreading. Most of their beverages have added cream or sugar and the second ingredient in their cream is sugar! We now know that this type of highly processed garbage is responsible for much more death and destruction than our current opioid epidemic, yet nobody seems to be viewing it this way. Dunkin Donuts has promoted a healthy image for their products and the reason they dumped the donuts is that they wanted to focus more on beverages, which they promote as being somehow “healthier” than donuts. If you look carefully at the ingredients in their products, the opposite is true. You can pile a lot more sugar into a beverage than you can into a solid food product and that sugar is rapidly absorbed into your body, creating a massive glucose load that overwhelms your bodies’ ability to handle sugar. These massive glucose spikes are also very damaging to the neurons in your brain, so it also takes a massive hit that over time will lead to destructive brain dysfunction symptoms. You might as well let “El Chapo” Guzman, the leader of the deadly Sinaloa drug cartel, out of prison so he can run the Dunkin Donuts company. His skills would fit right in because he is the master at getting people to consume substances that will destroy their health and lead to their premature death.
It’s Time to Haul Out the History Books
When Dunkin Donuts decided to ditch the donuts and changed their name to Dunkin, nobody seemed to discuss the history of dunking donuts in coffee. Groucho Marx was the first actor to dunk his donut in coffee (it was actually someone else’s coffee) in the 1933 movie Duck Soup. An actress named Mae Murray actually started the donut in the coffee craze in the 1920’s when she started dunking her donuts in her coffee at a popular New York restaurant. The custom quickly spread by word of mouth across the country and later ended up in popular movies such as Clark Gable teaching Claudette Colbert the correct way to dunk in the Oscar-winning 1934 movie It Happened One Night. The National Dunking Association was eventually formed, and it had many famous members like Johnny Carson, Red Skelton, and Jimmy Durante.
When the restaurant that was the beginning of the Dunkin Donuts franchise in the 1950s decided to change their name to Dunkin Donuts, they were obviously aware of this illustrious history. The current Bumpkins running Dunkin seem to be totally oblivious to this history. That’s probably because dunking a plain donut in coffee likely carries few health risks compared to the toxic junk they currently sell. Why acknowledge a history that doesn’t promote their primary mission–foisting neurotoxic fare on an unsuspecting public?
The next time you are headed to a Dunkin Donuts, I suggest that you do as I do and limit your purchase to black coffee. You can have it hot or cold, large, medium or small, but don’t go along with their plan to load it up with toxic ingredients. When the Dunkin Donuts employee offers the cheery “Will there be anything else?”, I suggest you do as I do. Respond with an icy stare that sends the message “Give me my damn coffee and don’t waste my time peddling your toxic junk!”
How To Dunkin-Proof Your Brain
There’s one other thing you can do to protect yourself when you venture into your local Dunkin Donuts. About an hour before your visit, I recommend taking a triad of safe supplements that will knock the socks off any cravings for sweet or starchy food. The first is L-glutamine, a readily available and safe supplement. It’s available in 500 or 1,000 mg capsules and I recommend taking 1,000 mg about an hour before your Dunkin Donuts adventure. The next supplement is CARB-22, a combination of monoamine precursors that will help enhance the dopamine and serotonin in your brain. These neurotransmitters play a key role in regulating appetite and just about everything else that goes on in your brain. I recommend taking 1 or 2 capsules with the L-glutamine.
The 3rdsupplement is potassium bicarbonate, a form of potassium that has been shown to help maintain a normal blood pressure. I was recently introduced to potassium bicarbonate by my friend Larry Hobbs who runs the site fatnews.com. After taking about 2,000 mg of potassium in this form daily, I was able to discard four BP medications. Now on most days, all I take is the potassium bicarbonate. On days where my BP is a bit high, I will take one or two of my drugs and that seems to do the trick. One remarkable thing I immediately noticed when I started taking this form of potassium was that it totally knocked the socks off my appetite and completely destroyed any desire for sweet or starchy food. I typically only eat one meal a day in the early evening, but now I have to almost force myself to eat. Any desire for a bit of dessert after my meals has been completely trashed. You shouldn’t take a potassium supplement if you are taking a potassium-sparing medication like Aldactone or a potassium supplement from your physician. You should also avoid potassium if you have any degree of kidney disease. This form of potassium comes in capsules or powder but I prefer the capsules. I recommend taking two capsules along with your L-glutamine and CARB-22. Now when you saunter into your local Dunkin Donuts for your black coffee, you won’t even see the wall of neurotoxic treats in front of you. You may have heard the Dunkin motto “America Runs on Dunkin.” I think it needs to be changed to “America Dies on Dunkin”.

How true. Not just Dunkin’ Donuts. All the burger joints, pizza places, submarine places, and some restaurants. And don’t forget all the processed junk and prepackaged food sold in supermarkets. There is nothing like cooking your food from scratch, a home made meal. The best restaurant, my house.
Phyllis:
I completely agree! Did you notice that many of the folks in the caravan heading here from South America are obese? That’s because they are poor and can only afford the same highly processed food that many Americans are eating. They don’t have access to healthy, whole foods like their distant relatives consumed. How was Greece?
