Fill ‘Er Up: The Foodization of Drug Stores and Gas Stations
When I was growing up, drugstores was where people went to buy prescription or Over the counter drugs. You could also find various medical supplies, toiletries and a few person hygiene items. At the checkout counter they may have sold a few candy bars but that’s about it.
Today I went to one of our local 24 hours mega-pharmacies to pick up a prescription for my wife. I found myself walking by aisle after aisle of candy, soda, chips and every type of imaginable junk food. I finally arrived in the back of the store where they have the pharmacist and a relatively small area containing the items that used to be stocked in a drug store.
The same is true where I buy gas. Years ago gas stations sold only gas and auto related products like spark plugs, wiper blades and motor oil. Today it’s almost impossible to find these items in most “convenience stores” that sell gas because they too are filled to the brim with candy and junk food.
What brought about this radical change in our drug stores and gas stations? They certainly wouldn’t stock these items if people didn’t buy them. I never purchase these food items but somebody must be doing so. The simple answer is people with sugar-brain and CARB syndrome. The lead symptom of both these conditions is a craving for sweet or starchy foods. Many people don’t recognize how these cravings dominate their food choices when they are at a subconscious level. When they go to pick up a prescription or pay for gas they impulsively grab these toxic food items without really thinking about it.
As they consume more of this food they transition from sugar-brain to the more serious disease Carbohydrate Associated Reversible Brain syndrome or CARB syndrome. At this point it’s too late because their strong pathological cravings drive them to binge on the very food that is frying their brain.
The only way this situation will change is for people to understand the disease process that is driving sugar-brain and CARB syndrome. These conditions are triggered by the long term consumption of excessive fructose mainly from sucrose (sugar) and HFCS and high glycemic carbohydrates mainly from grains. This site is dedicated to teaching how to prevent or reverse sugar brain and how to initiate effective treatment if you have CARB syndrome.
One of key components of this approach is to suppress the pathological carbohydrate cravings that drive people to impulsively buy and consume this toxic food. Once of the easiest ways to do so is to take the amino acid l-glutamine as a supplement. I recommend taking 1,000 mg or more three times daily on an empty stomach between meals. L-glutamine is available as powder or capsules and is essentially free of any side effects.
The next time you go to your local drugstore or gas station, take a good look around you. If you have trouble making through the store without purchasing this type of fake food, you need treatment for your sugar-brain or CARB syndrome.
